Kelsey Kopro

Kelsey Kopro is Brilla College Prep's Principal. Prior to becoming a founding administrator at Brilla, Kelsey spent four years as a 5th grade math teacher at Bedford Stuyvesant Collegiate (BSC), an Uncommon School, where she led her students to achieve scores that exceeded the district, city, and state on the New York State Mathematics Exam. While at BSC, Kelsey also developed and executed a new role as the Culture Lead. Through this role, she coordinated all school culture initiatives including running the weekly community meeting for a student body of over 300. She led strategic planning for the school’s character education curriculum. She also joined school leaders to participate in culture walkthroughs for other schools in the Uncommon Network, offering feedback and solutions for culture-based objectives. In addition to her role working in culture, Kelsey also served as an Instructional Lead to guide the development of an apprentice teacher. Her first two years at BSC were taught under the umbrella of Teach for America as a 2009 Corp Member, during which she also received her Master’s degree in Education through Hunter College, Teacher U. Kelsey completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She is originally from Lawrenceville, GA and is excited to continue her journey in the Bronx with the Brilla College Prep family.
